Graphic design: In a world of growing visual sophistication, it’s more important than ever that a business’s appearance be a worthy reflection of its character.

Over the years I’ve devised appealing solutions for a wide variety of client needs, including corporate identity and stationery systems, websites, marketing collateral, CD packaging, software documentation, concert programs, posters, and books.

A specialty has been the design, redesign, art direction, and layout of both B2B and consumer publications such as New England Home, Inc. Technology, Fidelity Focus, Better Software, and MIT Sloan Management Review, among others. My work has garnered awards from Folio:, the American Society of Business Press Editors, the Florida Magazine Association, and the Society for Technical Communication. The intent at all times: essential information set out in a way that is clear, appropriate, sophisticated, and stylish.

I created three different overall looks for New England Home magazine, and hundreds of story layouts. Letting the brand’s beautifully produced photography take center stage was always a primary concern.

I undertook the redesign and rebranding of STQE/Software Testing & Quality Engineering magazine as Better Software, as well as ongoing art direction for several years. A particular challenge for this title was its budget: clever use of inexpensive stock photography and illustration was key, with only a few strategic pieces commissioned. Giving the inherently technical subject matter a lively, fun visual treatment was, however, a real pleasure.
